the number of和a number of的区分

1、意思上不同。a number of暗示“许多”，相配于 many；the number of暗示“……的数量”。

2、中央词不同。a number of+名词做主语时中央词是所加的名词；the number of+名词做主语时中央词是number。

3、谓语动词要求不一样。a number of谓语动词用复数；the number of谓语动词用单数。

the number of和a number of的用法

1、a number of：A number of 是多量的，等于a lot of一类，后接可数名词复数或代词，谓语动词用复数。词组中还可以进进形收容词暗示数量大或小等。

a number of：There are a namber of ants on the ground。地上有很多蚂蚁。A number of apples are red。许多苹果是红色的。

2、the number of：The number of介词of同后来名词构成介词短语，润饰the number，当它作主语时，谓语动词用单数。

the number of：The number of the apples is 40。苹果的数量是40。The number of students is 2000。学生的数量是2000人。
